Those of you who follow my social Social Media accounts will know that we at Just In Case Prep are participating in Utah’s Great Shakeout this morning. The Great ShakeOut is a state/country wide earthquake drill that will take place this morning. The purpose of this drill is to help you as a person, family or business owner understand what areas you need to tweak in your preparation in case something like this really does happen. The potential damage of a Utah earthquake can be seen in better detail in the video below. It is pretty mind blowing to me how many bad things can happen in such a short period of time.
The prepping world will always be reactive. We cannot be proactive with something as unknown as an earthquake. Your prepping should be based around “If this happens” we will probably need X,Y and Z. Experts suggest that you have a minimum of a 2 weeks supply of food, water and emergency supplies. Please note, this is the minimum amount suggested. I would recommend that you have more, and I will tell you why. If a two weeks supply is enough for your family but the widowed neighbor down the street either doesn’t have food or can’t get to her food because the quake made her house fall in, would you not want to do everything you could to make sure she was taken care of as well? Could you tell her no if she asked for some food? You never know what is going to happen in a time like this. You might have the only house on the block that doesn’t fall in. I am not suggesting that you prepare to take care of everyone in your neighborhood, but I am asking that you have more than a 2 weeks supply just in case.
Please comment below and tell me what are you doing to prepare? Are you participating in this drill? I would love to hear your thoughts on how it went and what you learned. What do you have in place just in case something like this happens? How are you educating your children to be prepared?
Here are some great resources to help you become more prepared.
